Road Trip to Idaho

Tony, Emma and I made a trip to Boise, Idaho to attend an OB conference.  Left early Sunday morning and enjoyed the beautiful drive along the Gorge.  Made a quick stop at Multnomah Falls.  Brought back memories when Tony and I stopped there about the same time 12 years ago. We were on our way to visit his parents in Moutain Home, Idaho and he proposed to me.  Wow- where have the last 12 years gone?  Doesn't seem like that long ago that I was planning my wedding!

Next stop, the Dalles to eat breakfast at Cousins.  We've always stopped here on the trips we've made to Idaho so it was kinda a given we had to stop for breakfast.  Such a cute restaurant with all the farm decor and cow sounds as you open the front door.  Delicious food too!!!

Can you guess what kind of a tractor this is?  I bet grandpa could tell you!
Driving through eastern Oregon it was nice and sunny until we came upon this dark cloud.  Made a bathroom stop out in the middle of nowhere and there was an older couple stranded and needing help.  They had a sign on the bathroom door asking for help so we did our good deed for the day and gave them some $.  Normally I don't do this, but for some reason just felt like we should give them money.  Of course all we had was a $20 bill so that is what they got.  Hope it helped get them home.  As we came home I looked to see if their van was still at the rest stop, but it wasn't.
Finally to Idaho!  Tony and Emma were both sleeping at this point so I quickly grabbed Tony's phone and took the famous "Welcome to __________" picture that everyone takes!
Arrived at our adorable little studio apartment.  Worked out perfect and wasn't too far from where the conference was.  So much better then a hotel room.  We had our own little kitchen so got a pizza (and cookie dough!) from Papa Murphy's and a few groceries to make some other meals.  Forgot about the time change so had to be up and ready to go about 7:30AM (6:30 Oregon time).  Remember, I'm a night shift worker so this was extra early for me.  Surprisingly, I did well and didn't even get my coffee the first morning.
Tony and Emma dropped me off at the conference and then they had all day to play.  It was raining so they decided to go see the Lorax!  I sat and listened to a wonderful speaker all day!  Enjoyed the conference a lot and the 2 days actually went by quickly.  Learned a lot of good things and I even won a $25 gift card to Starbucks!

That evening we couldn't decide what to do so we took Emma to a park not too far from where we were staying. After playing awhile I talked Tony into making a "quick" trip to Hobby Lobby.  I used to LOVE going to this store when we lived in Kansas, but unfortunately we don't have them here.  Last summer when my mom and I went to a funeral in Spokane I was excited to go to one there.  Only to find out that they were opening on Tuesday and we were leaving on Sunday- so bummed!  So we got to Hobby Lobby around 6 and they close at 8.  You would think 2 hours would be more then enough, but it wasn't.  Spent the whole 2 hours in there (while Tony and Emma patiently waited in the car!) and could have spent a couple more hours in there.  Bought so many fun things!

Tuesday night Tony wanted to go to Rockies Diner.  He looked up onlne to see if Man Vs. Food had ever been in Idaho and sure enough they had.  Emma loved the waitresses and thought it was neat that they wore roller skates.  Food was good, but Tony didn't even attempt to eat the challenge- a 4lb hamburger, order of chili cheese fries and a milkshake.
Sorry about the blurry pic, but Emma loved the "pretty girls" with their roller skates!

Went to Wahooz's for the evening.  Forgot about it being Spring Break so there were kids everywhere.   Tony and Emma were going to ride the bumper boats, but at the last minute Emma decided she didn't want to get wet.  She did ride the go-karts with dad and going fast!  Went miniature golfing, which can be rather interesting playing with a 4 year old that doesn't quite understand the rules.

Was supposed to leave early Wednesday morning so Tony could get home to go to work, but he wasn't feeling well so called in sick.  Was able to take our time coming home.  8 hour road trips are always better when you stop for a dilly bar at Dairy Queen!  Was glad to make it home safe.  Debated about stopping at DSW in Portland and doing a little shopping, but by the time we got to Portland I was tired of traveling and just wanted to go home.  Guess I'll have to make another shopping trip?  Too bad I have to work this weekend Donna or I would be going with you!!!!
Already thinking about planning my next conference.  Maybe somewhere nice and sunny... I think they have one in Hawaii.
